The Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve (DNERR) is looking for volunteers to help with the 2009 horseshoe crab spawning survey.
Two training sessions will be held at the St. Jones Reserve in Dover, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on April 22 and 10 – 11:30 a.m. on April 25. Volunteers will learn how to conduct a survey, record data, and distinguish between male and female horseshoe crabs.
Peak spawning days run from the beginning of May through the end of June, with surveying done during evening hours based on high tide times. Volunteers will work in surveying teams for 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the number of horseshoe crabs.
Training and pre-registration are required to assist in the project.
If you are interesting in the training, please pre-register by calling 302-739-3436.
