Two Newark High Juveniles Arrested for Gun at School

Two Newark High School students were arrested today for having a loaded handgun in school.

This morning, at approximately 10:30 a.m., after seeing a handgun magazine and a gun in class, a Newark High School student sent a texted a friend in a nearby high school. This friend told authorities at their school, who in formed the Newark Police Department’s School Resource Officer and NHS Administrators.

A search was conducted on the students and the classroom in question. Authorities found the magazine under paper on a desk and a black Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun in a book bag.

The magazine contained three 9 mm rounds and the handgun, missing its magazine, had one round of bullets loaded in the chamber.

Due to the location these items were found, two underage males were brought into custody.
