School bus driver, David V. Burns, Jr., was charged with assault after punching a student in the face.

On Tuesday, April 7, Burns drove Kirk Middle School students home on their usual route. In response to a comment made about his driving, Burns invited the 14-year old student to the front of the bus.

The student came up front once the bus was pulled over to the side of the road. During a verbal exchange between them, Burns punched the student in the face.

The student then got off the bus, where his family took him to see a doctor.

Burns was officially charged with one count of third degree assault. He was arraigned and issued a $250.00 unsecured bond with a no contact order pending a later trial date.

Mr. Burns later resigned from his position with Advanced Student Transportation.

Any questions concerning this matter can be directed to the Interim Superintendent of the Christina School District, Mr. Freeman Williams at 302-552-2600.
