An inattentive driver struck the patrol car of a state trooper last night on Wrangle Hill Road in Bear.
The trooper, who according to Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh is a 20+ year veteran of the state police, was operating his fully marked 2008 Ford Crown Victoria patrol vehicle on southbound Wrangle Hill Road at Porter Road when he stopped at a red light. A 1999 Ford Ranger driven by Mark Howell, 48, of Elkton, approached the trooper from behind and was unable to stop in time, rear-ending the trooper’s patrol car.
The Trooper was transported from the scene to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for a back injury.
Howell was not injured, and was cited for Inattentive Driving.
