A New Castle man has been arrested for stealing over $200,000 from a 90-year-old blind man who was in his care.

According to police, Bruce Stabley, 42, of Prosperity Road in New Castle, Stabley began handling the financial matters of the victim in July 2007 and subsequently began withdrawing large amounts of cash for items such as a car, a new motorcycle, a new kitchen for his home, a new roof and to pay off over $200,000 in mortgages.

Police learned the victim did not authorize any of the purchases or large cash withdraws and was unable to view his own banking account statements due to his sight loss.

Stabley was arrested Thursday evening and charged with two counts of theft over $100,000 and two counts of exploiting the resources of an infirmed adult with a loss greater than $50,000.

He was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Prison after failing to post a $60,000 secured bail.

This may not be thew first time Bruce took advange of an older person. About 5yrs ago Bruce became oner of property at 842 Old Baltimore Pk . a gift from and older person he befriended.
He and his brothers built a house for his parents and sold park of the land to Land of Life Church. I think the IRS should take a look at his finances.
