The Christina School District has announced that it is seeking input on its search to fill its vacant superintendent position through public forums being held between March 3 and March 5.
The forums are intended as a way for Christina School Board members to garner the input of parents, students, and members of the public about what they’d like to see included as Christina searches for a new superintendent, as well as discuss the issues the district should address in future years.
The schedule for the community forums is as follows:
• Tuesday, March 3 - 7:00 p.m., Keene Elementary School,
200 LaGrange Avenue, Newark
• Wednesday, March 4 - 7:00 p.m., Sarah Pyle Academy,
501 North Lombard Street, Wilmington
• Thursday, March 5 - 7:00 p.m., Shue-Medill Middle School,
1550 Capitol Trail, Newark
The district has also created an online questionnaire which asks individuals to rate the qualities in a superintendent that they value most. The information provided will be provided to the Christina Board of Education to use in their candidate selection process.
The superintendent positing has been vacated since the departure of Dr. Lillian Lowery, who was chosen by Governor Jack Markell as Delaware’s Secretary of Education. Lowery was confirmed by the Delaware State Senate on January 23.
Dr. Freeman Williams, Christina School District’s Assistant Superintendent for Student and Administrative Services, has been acting as the district’s Interim Superintendent, and will continue until a replacement is found.
According to a timeline provided by the school board, the deadline for applications for the vacant position is March 9, and they hope to appoint a new superintendent on or before April 21.
July 1 is the target start date for the new superintendent.
