Dr. Freeman Williams, Christina School District’s Assistant Superintendent for Student and Administrative Services, has been chosen to become the district’s Interim Superintendent.

Williams will replace outgoing superintendent, Dr. Lillian Lowery, who was chosen by Governor Jack Markell as Delaware’s Secretary of Education. Lowery was confirmed by the Delaware State Senate on January 23.

Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in education, a master’s degree in curriculum development, and an Ed.D. in educational leadership, all from the University of Delaware. Prior to serving as Christina’s Assistant Superintendent for Student and Administrative Services, Williams served as the Director of Student Services and Director of Instructional Support.

Next up for the Christina Board is beginning the process of finding a permanent replacement for Lowery’s position. The board’s first step will be to negotiate with a search firm that will seek candidates for the position.
